The impact we’re driving, beyond sustainable biomass
Creating a positive impact starts with our sustainable raw material and ends with our clients transitioning into renewable energy. Through our work, we regenerate ecosystems, support local industries, and empower communities.
Key sustainability compliance and impacts:
Certification: CBC/SoN is the first South African company to be EU-RED II & III compliant. All products are FSC 100% -FM/CoC certified and RED-III compliant via SBP v2.
EUDR: CBC is EUDR-ready, with full supply-chain traceability thanks to end-to-end control of harvesting and sourcing. We also joined the FSC EUDR Early Adopters Programme and passed an audit against the FSC Regulatory Module.
GHG: Our 2025 SBP audit verified energy-use inputs for EU-RED GHG calculations. We deliver >80% CO₂eq savings.
Water: Certified water savings are measured under FSC Ecosystem Services norms by an accredited auditor, using a tool developed with WWF/RSB based on Dr. David Le Maitre’s methodology. Stewards of Nature manages these tradable water certificates. In 2025, 337K cbm of net water gains were added to regional systems.
Socio-economic impact
Generate direct and indirect employment in regions facing unemployment.
Support equipment ownership and local contractor growth, enabling sustainable livelihoods and stronger local supply networks.
Engage landowners via clearing programmes, facilitating restoration-economies rather than extractive models.
Biodiversity impact
We work hand-in-hand with our sister company, Stewards of Nature (SoN), to deliver biodiversity gains alongside sustainable biomass harvesting. SoN’s alien invasive plant clearing and restoration approach is designed to regenerate natural systems, support the return of native vegetation, and improve habitat quality over time.
All our raw material is either sourced from eco restoration work (Alien Invasive Plants) or forest resides, and is EU-RED compliant, EUDR ready and FSC 100% and SBP certified or controlled.
Our sister company
Stewards of Nature (SoN) is a sister company of Coega Biomass Centre, focused on restoring ecosystems by clearing alien invasive plants and leading clearing activities.
